Magazine Cover Research

Advertising your film on the front cover of a film magazine is a really good way of advertising your film to your target audience and to film fanatics. When we were researching on what type of magazine cover we wanted to create we started by looking a generic film magazine with typical titles and images here is an analyzed front cover of a total film magazine cover:

After looking at this magazine we felt that our genre wouldn’t fit in with the typical conventions of a magazine cover, so we decided to research further into different film magazines and I analyzed empire to see it this would be an appropriate option for our front cover:

Looking at empire I found this didn’t fit our genre and would create the effect we wanted so we did some more research, and found a film magazine named interview which had a much more interesting and captivating front cover. I also decided to analyze the front cover on this magazine to compare it to the total film magazine and empire:

After we had analyzed all of them we decided that we wanted to go with the Interview as we felt this would fit with the genre of our film much better and give us a really unique magazine cover which is what we really want to create. Unlike the Empire and Total Film we felt that Interview would represent  our film genre really well and we would be able to portray the idea of romance better through Interview magazine, we felt this magazine would appeal to our target audience which is essentially girls, we felt this magazine is more girly and would appeal to them as it also features fashion so this would benefit us as our film would appeal to people who take an interest in fashion. Interview Magazine was founded by Andy Warhol in 1969 he wanted it to be a magazine the featured intimate interviews with celebrities, musicians, creative thinkers and artists. He used to give away free copies of the magazine to who he thought where the “In-Crowd”. After Andy’s death, it re-launched in 2008 under the new editorial director Fabien Baron, with the iconic model Kate Moss on the cover, it has kept the same format and vision as Andy Warhol’s. when creating our magazine we are going to have to focus on creating one exactly like our research making sure we are using color not much text and creating one that looks unique.
