Evaluation Part Four- Technologies Used

In order to create a successful promotional package there were many different types of technology that we had to use. Many of them were based with software on the computers, luckily this year our school was able to provide us with Apple Mac computers, which are brilliant for what we were going to create. The cameras we use for capturing out footage were:

This was Molly's own video camera we used it as we felt that it would be more convenient for us to be able to use it whenever we would need it. We also felt that it was of a higher standard than the schools cameras. It had a very good zoom setting that was really useful when we were filming. I think that because it was our own camera we found it so much easier so that we didn't have to worry about our footage getting lost, also the camera didn't need a tape so we didn't have to worry about looking after the tape. We found this very useful.

We also decide to use a flip HD camera to film some last minute footage. We also used this for the night scene in the woods as we felt it was more compact and would be easier to use in the wooded area. We also found that the camera was less shaky as we had really good control over the way we could hold the camera. After using this camera we felt that we should have used it to film the whole of our footage as it was really high quality which really benefited our filming.

We also used a canon 1000D to capture the images for our film poster and our magazine cover. this really benefitted us as we were able to get images of a really high standard, that would help when we were editing them into our products. We were pleased with the quality of our images as we felt they looked really professional as they were taken with a really high standard camera and we feel this made our products look really effective and more realistic.

To help us with the shakiness of the filming we used a tripod as we felt this would help us create a much higher standard of filming as we would be able to keep the camera stable whilst we were filming our footage. When we went out filming we found that we were missing the foot part that attaches the camera to the tripod, however because we wanted to make sure our camera work was steady we tried to balance the camera on top as best we could as we felt it was essential that we used it, after a while we managed to find a spot where it balanced perfectly giving us our desired effect.

As we now had the Apple Mac computers we had new editing software to use which was called Final Cut Pro. At first we all found it very confusing as we were unsure of what tools to use in order to cut footage and where effects and transitions were within the program however, after a few lesson we managed to get to grips with the program and we found it much more accessible than Pinnicle which is the programme we had to use last year to edit our film opening, we all felt there was so much more available to us within this programme and it was much more professional than Pinnicle. When we were used to the program we felt that it was so much easier to use and had so many more things we were able to do in order to create our trailer.

Photoshop was used to create the film poster and film magazine this was the most practical program to create them both, as Molly and I have had previous experience using photoshop, we found it very easy to create the desired effect of the film poster and magazine. We also used it to create the different advertising techniques such as the DVD case the poster on the side of the bus and also on youtube, and also when we added our magazine to the interview website. This program was used a lot to create our promotional package as we felt it was the most suitable program for creating all of these different effects with our images, it also enabled us to create realistic advertising techniques that fitted with the conventions of film advertising.

YouTube was our main source of research and where we found most of our inspiration. Whenever we needed to check a convention or see how professional trailer used a transition we used YouTube to find out. This also helped us pick our song that would be in our trailer after searching YouTube. It really helped us to research conventions of romance trailer and help us create a true comparison between our trailer and a professional one.

To create our titles we used a program called livetype. This enabled us to create our titles, with a choice of many different fonts and effects to allow us to create really professional titles for our trailer, we found livetype very easy to use and it was easier than the type tool in final cut and you simply imported them as clips which was a lot easier as they were in exactly in the right place.

This is an Edi-Role we used this piece of technology to record our voice over, as it is really high quality and picks up everything. We also found it was really easy to upload the voice over, and edit it onto the trailer. This piece of equipment is really handy for recording a crisp and clear voice over.
